School Photos

Reminder: School Pictures will take place tomorrow, Tuesday, October 13.

Terry Fox Run

Congratulations to all our students and staff who participated in this year’s Terry Fox Run!

If you’d still like to contribute, it’s not too late. Donations can be made through our school’s page at the following link: Terry Fox School Run.

Thank you for your generosity and for keeping Terry’s dream alive!

Truth and Reconciliation

On September 30, our senior students led a presentation for the entire OES student body in recognition of the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. Our Grade 3–6 students also proudly performed Aysanabee, a song they had prepared in music class.

We are incredibly proud of our students’ leadership and of our school community’s continued commitment to listening, learning, reflecting, and deepening our understanding of the history, cultures, and experiences of Indigenous Peoples in Canada.

🏃‍♀️ Cross-Country Run

We had very successful cross-country runs in the last few weeks. Congratulations to all of our participants! Thank you to our Phys Ed team for their involvement in coordinating this event!

Interim Report Cards

Interim Report Cards will be released on Clic école/Mozaik Parent Portal on Tuesday, October 13th.

Please note that preschool reports are not accessible through the portal and will instead be sent home as paper copies.

If you need assistance accessing the Parent Portal, please refer to the instructions below. You may also contact our school secretary for support.

IEPs

Individual Education Plans (IEPs) will be sent home this week. Please take a few moments to review your child’s IEP, sign the document, and return it to the school at your earliest convenience.

The information provided below outlines the difference between Flexible Pedagogy and Adaptations. Flexible Pedagogy includes strategies and supports that are available to all students and, as such, may not be specifically identified on your child’s IEP. Adaptations, however, are individualized supports that are documented within the IEP when required.

Thank you for your partnership in supporting your child’s learning and success.

OES Rules of Conduct and Safety

In the past week, all grade 3-6 students had a visit from Ms. Mackay to review several sections of the Rules of Conduct and Safety including hallways expectations, bathroom expectations and bus expectations particularly highlighting the Quebec ban against cell phone use in schools. Students were explained that our teaching team created this list of expectations to help make OES a comfortable and safe place to learn. Students were in agreement with making an effort to follow these expectations to allow for a more peaceful environment at school.

We also added the expectation “I will not use electronic devices on the school bus”, in accordance with section 13.1 of our Rules of Conduct and Safety and the Quebec ban on cellphones in schools. The OES Rules of Conduct and Safety can be found in the front of the school agendas and at the link below. Please take a moment to review school expectations with your child.

School Fees

Student supervision fees can be paid through your financial institution. Invoices are issued monthly through the mozaik portal, but you may also choose to pay the full amount at once.

Please note: If your child is registered in daycare, you will not receive a separate supervision invoice. Supervision fees are already included in daycare fees.

Book fees are charged separately. An invoice for book fees will be issued shortly.

If you have any questions regarding daycare fees or supervision fees, please contact Lisa Tremblay at ltremblay@nfsb.qc.ca.

PPO Fundraisers!

Thank you for supporting our Apple Fundraiser! A special thank you goes to our Parent Participation Organization (PPO) for coordinating this initiative. We sincerely appreciate everything our PPO does to support our school community and help create enriching opportunities for our students.

Be sure to mark your calendars for our next fundraiser: Burger Night, taking place on November 4 at Taverne de la Ferme in Ormstown. We hope to see you there! 🍔😊

SNAC

The Special Needs Advisory Committee (SNAC) is a parent-led group that partners with the NFSB to advocate for and support students with special needs. Mandated by Quebec’s Education Act, SNAC plays a vital role in shaping educational policies and ensuring that families have a voice in the services their children receive.

Daycare Corner

On the first ped day of the year, we made apple play dough and had a delicious cinnamon sugar apple treat. In preparation for Thanksgiving, we made Turkey crafts and snacks and gnome decorations!

Teacher’s Corner

Grade 1 and 1/2 have been busy learning to be scientists with Ms.Beth. They first tried their hand at making marshmallow towers/structures. They quickly learned that to make it strong, we needed to make triangles and not more marshmallows. Grade 1 was joined by friends in the grade 5/6 class to help them make their structures. We love when the big kids come to visit! We also took our learning outside and investigated leaves in the school yard using our five sense.

We have a new outdoor learning corner at OES which has been a nice addition to our school yard. Here is our grade 5/6 students having a group discussion in this space.

CLC Corner

Our CLC newsletters has valuable information for parents and events happening in NFSB schools. Don’t hesitate to contact Robyn for any questions or clarifications (rtsounis@nfsb.qc.ca). Thank you!
