A big thank you goes out to all those who have contributed to this year’s production! I can’t wait to see the final product. We are almost there!
This week we have the following practices and performances:
Tuesday – 8:45am: Practice
Wednesday – 10am: Dress Rehearsal (All classes are welcome to come watch)
Thursday – 10am: Grandparents show
Thursday – 7pm: Family show
Teachers, it’s not too late to get your book orders in! (Budget: $300/class) Here is the link to the purchase requisition form:
Looks like we might have some indoor recesses this week. Please remember to take a look at the indoor column on the duty schedule:
Earth day is April 22nd! The NFSB Material Resources Dept has offered to supply gloves and garbage bags so that we can do a community clean-up. I was thinking that our grade 3-6 students could participate (on that day or the day before). Please send me a quick email if you are interested in participating and I will put in a request for materials for your class.
Please remember to speak to your students about potentially dangerous items they could find (e.g. needles, broken bottles) that they should not pick up.
It is very important to double-check sending information before sending out confidential emails. Please consider putting a delayed send on your emails so that you have the chance to take back items that may have an error or may have been sent to the wrong person.
Please be reminded that all supervisors are expected to engage in “Active Supervision” while on duty. This includes the following practices:
Positioning yourself in the zone listed on our supervision schedule
Proximity to students that you anticipate may need support
Scanning the environment continuously
Avoiding all distractions (e.g., cell phones, conversations with other supervisors unrelated to supervision)
Help students in finding positive activities to engage in
Proactively intervening in situations before they escalate (whenever possible)
Support students with conflict resolution
Provide reminders of playground rules
Ensure that students are respecting our “OES How to Dress” guidelines. If they say that they do not have the proper gear, let their teachers know so that they can inform their parents
When students have been reminded of rules but are not respecting them, have them walk alongside you for some time (during this “time out” you may have them help you with supervision and use this time to engage in conversation about the playground rules and regulations”
Fill out incident reports as needed
Make a classroom teacher or the principal aware of all unresolved behaviors (depending on the severity of the behaviour)
*Reminder* PIC funds can cover the cost of online and in-person sessions, as well as substitution, hotel stays, and mileage!

MULTIPLE DATES: Sexualized Behaviours in Primary School

As previously explained, at recess, Grade K4-2 students should remain on the JR side, and Grades 3-6 should remain on the senior side. The only exception to this rule is at lunch hour when there are no senior students outside, grade 2 students are permitted on the SR side.
If you teach grade 3 students, please speak to your class to clarify.
OES How To Dress is still in effect. Please take a close look at this with your students. We will put a color copy of this visual in each teacher’s box and put some laminated versions up in the hall. I also suggest that it be reviewed in daycare. In addition, we will send this visual to parents so that they have a clear understanding of our expectations.
The following training on Emotional Intelligence is for all NFSB staff who are not already attending other training this Friday. It is an online training. My suggestion is to have it running on your smartboard while you work in your classes on Friday, as I know you probably all have other tasks that you would like to accomplish. Marc Brackett is an American psychologist and a leading researcher in the field of emotional intelligence. I hear that this speaker is really great and I hope it is useful for you!

Our ABAV plan is ready to go and needs to be approved at our next school GB meeting. For that reason, I would like for everyone to take a look at it this week and send Kristina Meredith (chair of the special needs/ ABAV committee) feedback before Thursday.
I would also like to ask that the ABAV committee finds time to meet on Thursday at lunch or Friday (TBC based on availability) to review the suggestions and let me know what you feel should be added to the plan. See links below to access the document.

This week is our last week for Option Club projects to be wrapped up. Please be sure to store all materials for the club you are running or supporting in the storage space next to the emotions room in the basement. The is a shelving unit labeled “Option Clubs”.
Thank you again to everyone who made this possible!
TEACHERS: A quick reminder to bring outdoor gear (including snowpants) for this Friday as we will be going outside for our workshop!
Wear pink or red on Friday for Valentine’s Day!
Please note that we have not changed our procedure for JR and SR students at lunch and recess. Grade K4-2 should remain on the JR side, and Grades 3-6 should remain on the senior side. The only exception to this rule is at lunch hour when there are no senior students outside, grade 2 students are permitted on the SR side. The south side stairs have now been opened for recess. The NFSB Material Resources have carpeted the stairs that will have wet boot traffic.
The North side stairs have had grip tape added to them make them less slippery. Mat Res is looking into the possibility of carpeting them as well.
We will begin pick-up on the south side (next to Jenn’s house) as of Monday. I apologize for the confusion yesterday.
Please make sure to close and lock windows at teh end of each day. We are at risk of pipes bursting if temperatures get too cold. This weekend one of our rooms went down to a critically low temp because a window was left open. Thank you to Jenn for going in on Saturday to close this window!

Please remind your students at the end of each day to put their shoes in their lockers. Remind them that Mr. Randy needs the floors to be clear in order to clean the halls in the morning. Thank you!

Dear Families,
Honey Bear, our Transportation mascot, will be visiting elementary schools during the upcoming School Bus Safety Campaign, which will run from January 26th to February 6th, 2026, as it is important to reinforce the importance of school bus safety with our students. Honey Bear also wants to remind everyone to STOP for school buses, SLOW DOWN in school zones, and STAY ALERT for our students!
You can visit Quebec’s Bus Carriers’ Federation for more safety tips. https://www.mastuvu.info/en
Wishing you all a wonderful & safe weekend,
Transportation Department, New Frontiers School Board
Once again, a big thank you goes out to our music teachers and all those who contributed to making this special day possible! ♥
All staff and students are invited to enjoy a holiday lunch, put on by Andrea, this Wednesday. Traditionally, during this event, staff usually offer a hand in serving and then sit with their students to enjoy the lunch. This is not mandatory but can be considered ECA if you choose to participate during your prep or lunch hour. A schedule will be sent out today or tomorrow.
We have been asked to refrain from making comments on the NFSB Facebook page regarding snow days or other postings. These are hard decisions to make, and it is much appreciated when these decisions are supported by the school teams.
*Reminder* PIC funds can cover the cost of online and in-person sessions, as well as substitution, hotel stays, and mileage!

The bus will depart for Zig Zag Zoo at 9:20 am and return at 3pm. Please send a reminder home in the student agendas that they will need a lunch that day!
Departure schedule to come from Mr. Campbell! Free hot dog lunch for all cycle 2 & 3 students.
Our student leaders have several theme days and a full day of stations planned. Thank you to our cycle 3 staff for taking on this initiative!
All December activities have been added to the students’ events calendar. I have added links for you to subscribe to this calendar so that it appears in your personal Microsoft calendar.
Families have received information regarding upcoming events in the latest newsletter:
Please note that our Preschool, LC and Cycle 1 trip has been changed to Zig Zag Zoo instead of the Movies.
Travis, Joelle, and Chantal have sent out a detailed plan regarding our Christmas concert. A big thank you to them for all the hard work and dedication that has gone into organizing this event, and to all those who will be staying to supervise students on Thursday evening.
Teachers, if you are unable to attend, please let me know by the end of the day today so that we can arrange supervision for your class on Thursday night.
As we are going to see colder temperatures this week, we will need to enforce that students dress appropriately for the weather. There are additional hats, mitts, boots & coats in the art closet downstairs. We will keep students in if the temperature goes below -25 °C with the wind chill. You can use the following visual created by Ms. Wendy with your students:

I would like to take a moment to welcome Natalie Leger and officially welcome Rebecca Reverter to our team. Natalie will be joining us as our school secretary every Wednesday. Rebecca will be replacing in the LC until the break and will continue in that class 1 day per week in the new year.
Congratulations to Mackenzie on her new position at Heritage. We thank you for your time and dedication at OES and wish you all the very best in your next chapter.
We have a new student starting in the Grade 1/2 class this morning. His name is Dylan. Please join the 1/2 team in giving him a very warm welcome!
Our stairwell is going to be fixed up enough for students to use it soon. The walls will remain unfinished, but sharp edges and outlets will be properly covered for safety.
For this to happen, we need to store the Gyprock that is currently in the stairwell. We will be putting it behind the stage; therefore, the costumes that are currently there will need to be moved this week.
Randy, Lisa & Lisa will be working on cleaning up the storage area in the basement this morning so that our performing arts costume racks can fit along the right side of the wall. A bin has been labeled for each teacher, and shelving has been labeled “Performing arts”, “option clubs”, and “Christmas”. If your items are being stored, please take a moment today to move them to your bin or the appropriate shelf. Speak to Randy if you need additional space.
Take two! This never happened last week. A thank you card for Ms. Henrico will be circulating this morning. We will also be giving her a gift certificate to show our appreciation for hosting the staff party.
The printing format for Report Cards has changed province-wide. Moving to this new format has caused many problems in the publishing step. Please take a quick look at a few of your students’ reports to make sure that comments and grades are not missing. The number comments for grades 2, 4, and 6 have now been corrected and should be visible. K4 Reports came out blank and will need to be resent today. Please let us know if you come across any other issues. Thank you, team!
Parent-Teacher interview registration has gone out to families. Our Thursday schedule is already pretty full! You can see the schedule in the Microsoft Bookings app. However, only one teaching partner will be able to see the schedule.
Dinner will be St-Hubert chicken. If you have food restrictions and cannot eat teh regular chicken, please speak to Tina. Thank you to Tina for coordinating this!
Please see the email from Ms. Jenn & Tina for the book fair schedule. Thank you both for coordinating this!
Please remind students that roughhousing is strictly prohibited at all times. If students are caught rough-housing, please have them sit out. If they are not following directions or are being disrespectful, please send them to me. At lunch hour, send me a quick text so that I know where to find them (e.g. Joe headed to the office – roughhousing). My number is 514-705-5377.
There is a board-wide Ped day on December 5th. Please be sure to sign up. TODAY is the last day!

OES now has access to 5 Lesson Pix accounts! We were hoping to make 5 generic accounts so that one could be used per cycle (plus LC), but unfortunately, it was not possible to create generic email addresses. Therefore, we had to choose 5 staff members who would manage the accounts. The following people now have accounts and are willing to help create resources:
Marguerite -Learning Centers
Christina -Preschool
Amy – Cycle 1 +Grade 3 class
Genevieve -Cycle 2 &3 (upstairs)
Lynn – NEST / social-emotional resources
Our lockdown practice is going to be on November 20th at 10 am. The procedure for this can be found in the NFSB Emergency Preparedness document on 9 & 10. A letter will be sent out to all families to advise them of this procedure taking place.
*Reminder* PIC funds can cover the cost of online and in-person sessions, as well as substitution, hotel stays, and mileage!

I will be adjusting the indoor recess column of the duty schedule and sending it out this morning.
For AM recess, upstairs students will continue to go to their classes. All other students will first get undressed at their lockers and change their shoes, then head to the gym. No change for students in the breakfast club.

Thank you to everyone who has shared photos of the amazing projects and activities your students are involved in! To make this process even easier, I’ll be distributing a QR code this week that you can use to quickly upload pictures.
Also, I’d love to come take photos myself! If you have a fun lesson or activity coming up, feel free to send me a quick text or email, and I’ll do my best to stop by. Getting to witness all the incredible things our students are doing is truly my favorite part of the job!
Good morning everyone,
I wanted to take a moment this morning to express how truly grateful I am to be part of such a strong and caring team. Our staff has experienced a great deal of loss over the past week, and throughout it all, so many of you have shared how supportive and compassionate your colleagues have been.
Thank you all for your flexibility, kindness, and for being there for one another as we navigate these challenging times together.
Just a reminder that all employees have access to Telus Health, an online service that provides 24/7 support for both physical and mental health needs.
You can chat or video call with a professional anytime, whether it’s for general health concerns or simply because you can’t sleep and need someone to talk to.
When downloading the app, please note that there are several Telus Health apps available, which can be confusing. Look for this logo when installing it.
I’ve personally used this app before, so feel free to reach out if you’d like help setting up your account. You can also come see me if you’ve used all of your sessions and would like more to be made available.

Thank you to the Spirit Committee and all staff members for the amazing Halloween activities planned last week! 🎃
I know that many of you went above and beyond to make the day special for our students, from Ms. Jenn hiding ghosts over the weekend, to Ms. Andrea and Cheryl for their spectacular spooky menu, to our music teachers for organizing the dance and sharing fun Halloween videos.
A big thank-you as well to our Cycle 3 team for planning their own Halloween morning activities, our daycare team for organizing special events for their students, and Christina for putting together the Walk-O-Ween.
I apologize if I’ve forgotten anyone — you are all awesome! Thank you for bringing so much joy and school spirit to OES! 👻🧡
The phone in the staffroom is now up and running for outside calls.
The Wi-Fi was updated sometime last week. It should be working better. Please let me know if you are still having difficulties with it, as I can put in a ticket to have them return and look at specific routers.
A temporary solution has been found for the corner fence. A 12-foot piece of fencing and a new gate will be added to the corner, making a triangle. It will remain like this until a new fence can be installed.
Our lockdown practice is going to be on November 20th at 10 am. The procedure for this can be found in the NFSB Emergency Preparedness document on 9 & 10. A letter will be sent out to all families to advise them of this procedure taking place.
A big thank you goes out to our spirit committee for planning multiple fun activities for this week and to Tina for setting up our Walk-O-Ween! Please remind your students that there are no weapons allowed as part of their costumes. Non-scary masks are allowed to the extent that you decide. However, they must be taken off for our walk to and from the shopping center for safety reasons.
Please note that the DG, Mike Helm, and ADG, Joyce Dohohue, will be popping in from 9 am to 10 am on this day!
Here are the details from the spirit committee:

Please be sure to clean up after yourself when using this space, including doing your dishes and putting them away, and recycling papers that you do not need. Thank you!
Please remind students that they must use the main bathrooms and cannot use the NEST bathroom, as it is intended for adult use. This will help us keep the space clean & sanitary for all of you to use!
I had a request to move the campfire until after report card prep to allow for more time to prepare something with your classes. I have pushed it back to Nov 27th at 2 pm (a Thursday before a ped day).

If you have not sent out your IEPs yet, please be sure to do so as soon as possible. When they come back signed, please put them in the student’s C-file. If they do not come back, please send a reminder to families and put a copy in the C-file, even if it’s missing the parent signatures.
Christina will be sending out a checklist of strategies that are being used as “Flexible Pedagogy”. This checklist is meant to replace these strategies being present on the IEP, so that parents are aware of the strategies being used, even if they do not appear on the IEP. When you receive this document, please download it and modify it to make it reflect what you are currently doing. You will then be able to check off the strategies being used for each student with an IEP and send it home. Please let me or Christina know if you have any questions. I would love to see your completed documents!

Thursday and Friday, I will be at a conference. Christina will replace me Thursday afternoon and Chad will replace me on Friday afternoon.

Randy has updated our Fire Evacuation Plan to reflect the new plans that are being put up in your classrooms. These have been created by an architect hired by the school board. Some of you have made suggestions to reduce the wait time to exit. I will have someone from the school board observe our next fire drill and see if it is possible to implement these changes.

NEST is officially open. A schedule has been made, and student drop-in times have been sent out to teaching teams. Please be sure to send your students at their scheduled time, even if they don’t seem to need it at that moment. Lynn will be available next Tuesday, just before our staff meeting, at 3:30pm in the staffroom to answer any questions regarding NEST.
We had a successful and very quick fire drill last week! Thank you for the preparation that you did in your classes, which made the drill go as smoothly as it did. If you have any feedback on the drill, please send it by email so that I can include it in our report and make adjustments.
Wendy, Jenn, and Robert are sweepers on each floor. We would like to have a backup sweeper for each floor in case of absence (needs to be a support staff member). Please let me know if you are interested.
Orange shirt day is tomorrow, September 30th! A big thank you goes out to the Spirit Committee for planning this day. Please see the email from Joelle for details.

All staff should be present on the PED day on October 6th. Here is the plan:
Daycare – Daycare is open! See Lisa for the schedule
Crisis Response Team – 10 to 12 pm at School Board
All other Techs & Attendants – Professional Development (info to come)
Teachers – Interim Report writing day (you can work from a location of your choice)
Please note that the office will be closed for lunch hour from 12 to 1 pm every day. Families have been made aware of this in teh last newsletter and have been asked to pick up their children before or after lunch hour if needed.
I would like to remind everyone that the front office should be used for working purposes, not as a space for breaks. When several staff members gather there for breaks, the noise level makes it difficult for those who are working, whether answering phone calls, attending TEAMS meetings, or focusing on tasks. Thank you for helping us maintain a quiet and productive workspace!
It has been strongly recommended that if a social worker or another professional in a similar role requests to observe your class, a representative from the school board (Celina or Bianca) should also be present. If you receive this type of request, please let Christina or me know, and we will help coordinate the process.

Wednesday, October 1st – Valley Cross Country Run (Grades 1–3)
Thursday, October 2nd – Valley Cross Country Run (Grades 4–6)
Please head down to the soccer fields with your groups at 9:30am. The run begins at 10:00 am.
Students should be wearing their OES t-shirt and running shoes, and bring a healthy snack and a water bottle.
This is considered ECA for all teachers whose students are in the run (if you have a prep period during this time); replacements will be coordinated for Chad and Travis for their classes that are not at the run.
Picture Day is this Friday. You will receive a schedule by email this week.
As you probably know, our Terry Fox run and first campfire have been moved to Wednesday, October 8th.
Anne Marie, Yvonne, Emma Langlois, and myself will be walking in the CIBC Run for the Cure on Saturday. We welcome everyone to join the team and walk with us! Here is the link for more info and to register:
Please remind students to follow our dress code, as outlined in Section 9.1 of our Rules of Conduct and Safety. I also ask that all staff members support this expectation by modeling it through their own attire.
9.1 Dress Code
Overview:
• Students should come to school dressed appropriately for the weather and for playing.
• Clothing should promote tolerance and acceptance appropriate to the demographic of the school;
shirts should not promote violence or inappropriate expressions.
• Clothing should cover the whole torso & chest.
• Undergarments should not be visible.
• Sensible shoes are required inside throughout the day.
• Students are to wear appropriate footwear for the weather and the activity (e.g. no shoes outside in
the winter or flip flops for soccer).
September CFA should be completed. Please let me know if you need support with this. There is a folder on our Staff Sharepoint to upload your CFAs to. Here is the link: OES Staff – Documents – Common Formative Assessments – Staff Library
I still haven’t received any photos, but I know that there are some great projects happening in your classes! If it’s easier, you can send me your photos by text message or use the link below. I will check for students without media release and put smiliey faces over their faces if needed!
Welcome back to Debbie Wilson! As of Monday, Debbie will be starting to support Grade 5 10h/week and will be replacing Genevieve on lunch duty.
The NEST will be officially opening on Monday. Lynn has sent our emails to classroom teachers indicating the times and day of the week for all regular check-ins. If you have something in particular that you feel should be worked on with your student during their time in NEST, please let Lynn know.
I would like to run our first fire drill next week on Wednesday at 10am. We will use the same exits as last year. Please review our emergency procedures documents before Wednesday. Kim will be printing class lists, as well as a red card and a green card for each room. These should be hung in a plastic sleeve by the door so that they are easily accessible in the case of an emergency. If you have any questions, please speak to Kim or Chad on Monday or Tuesday.
Our fire inspection went well. The inspector was quite thorough. We will receive the full report soon. There were a few changes that needed to be made immediately.
Firstly, the door stops on the stairwell doors need to be removed as the doors have to close automatically. In case of a fire, the stairwell is a “fireproof zone” and having the doors closed is necessary for it to remain fireproof. Randy will be taking the door stops off this week.
In addition, you may have noticed that the gated area on the JR side, where the contactor garbage bin is located, is now open but blocked off by cones. That area is required to be opened for evacuation purposes.
A gathering point sign will be installed in our school yard soon. I will let you know if the report includes any other recommendations that may affect you.

Congratulations to Marguerite for being awarded the Special Ed Technician replacement position. Marguerite will continue to work in the Learning Center.
Welcome back to Meloney Giroux, who has been awarded an SEC position. Meloney will support our 3/4 & 4 students 10h per week.
We are still working on filling three positions, including a SEC, an attendant and a Special Ed Tech. Updates to come!
Please take a moment to email Lynn with a list of students that could benefit from a check-in at the NEST and be sure to include the frequency and length of time you would like them to be out of class for. Lynn send you a NEST schedule when it is complete.
We will keep our bus procedures the way they are for now. This is short-term (until the stairwell project is over). If you have concerns, please email me or Joelle, and we will discuss them at the next school council meeting.
Please note that our buses have not been affected by the electric bus recall.
The due schedule can be found here: Duty Schedule
No updates this morning, but there will be changes when the remaining staff are hired.
Thank you to everyone for all the work that went into making this evening such a success!

Soutien en Class -This is a task that you can support classroom teachers with!
The storage bin should be leaving the yard this week! No update at the moment on the rest of the project. I will keep you in the loop when I hear more!

To give everyone a little more time to prepare, I’m thinking of holding our opening campfire after the Terry Fox Run on Spetember 25th. Please try to have a class cheer ready for that day (it can be super simple and made up by the kids!) Please let me know if this does not work in your schedule.
The volume of emails that I am receiving has started to increase. I try to prioritize immediate needs. Please give me 48h to answer. If something is urgent, please text me at 514-704-5377. Thank you!
Don’t forget to submit your personal orders by 9 am each day: Cafeteria – Ormstown Elementary School
The cafeteria schedule for student helpers has been created and has begun. Thank you Anne Marie!
Previous Staff Updates will be available at the bottom of the page under the calendar.
Committees should take time to plan their first meeting in the next few weeks. Please send me an invite, I will attend what I can!
I would love to share pictures of our events and all of the awesome things happening in class, daycare and outside with our families. Please use the link below to send me your photos
AM – Fencing has now been added to the South side of the building so that we can allow students to enter the school yard from that end of the school. This will alleviate students walking past buses while they are arriving.
PM – We will keep the procedure as we currently have it until the project ends.
The gym, upstairs hallway & classrooms are being cleaned this evening. The gym should be ready to use by tomorrow, with the exception of some minor details (e.g., ramps for the chair trolley, racks). It has been approved for us to order new filters for our air filtration machines to reduce dust in the building. Sills for the bottom of the doors to the South stairwell have also been ordered (so that dust can stay contained in the stairwell). If you have questions or concerns about the renovations, please feel free to reach out to me directly.
The school board has approved the hiring of two Special Ed Techs to replace Christina and Yvonne. We also have two Aide en Classe positions to fill. These jobs are currently posted on the NFSB website, and I will be able to hire candidates when each posting ends. A Special Needs Committee meeting will be called at this point to determine their placement in the school.
Please have your course outlines for core subjects updated for curriculum night this Thursday.
Last year’s course outlines are available on Mosaik. Please upload this year’s online when it is ready so that we can continue to refer to them year after year.
There are backpacks available for any student who may need one. They will be stored at the back of the art room.
Today was our first day of using our online system! It went super well, with only one parent who sent in cash. If you would like to order hot lunch for yourself, you can also do so online through our “Cafeteria” page on our website at the following link: Cafeteria – Ormstown Elementary School
A reminder that students are not allowed to have cell phones or tablets at school or on the bus. Please model this behaviour by using phones for urgent matters only when students are present.
The OES Newsletter link below will allow you to see what information has been sent to families.
